Musical Concept
Music is composed in the Western world as a series of semitones, or half steps. The technical make up of a A minor chord is composed of a the 1st flattened third and 5th degrees of a chord
There are 12 keys in Western music on a piano. The key of C is the easiest to learn concepts on because it has no sharps or flats, so we will use that key to explain musical concepts. Thats going to be C E and G. A song with a good minor chord placement evokes a feeling of sadness, melancholy. These are are what I call a really good crying song. I have written many songs emphasizing the minor chords.
Season of Mourning
I’ve been a person that has always been desperate for connection, for friends… for people to call my tribe. After graduate school, I had, what I thought were really quality, strong, relationships with people. We promised to be in touch, pray for each other, stay connected. And you better believe I made the phone calls, sent the texts. But I soon realized that I had valued the relationship seemingly more than they had. It crushed me. I remembered birthdays, special events, kept the connections going, only to be met with silence…promises of I got you… I felt alone, betrayed. Empty, angry, bitter. Why did they promise to be in touch and then not do it. My two year old son made a comment that broke my heart. He mentioned a little girl that we are often around and said: XXX is my best friend. He said it so innocently, so sure, so grateful for human connection. IN that moment I started crying because I wanted to protect him from rejection… from the reality that how he valued this relationship may not be reciprocated…and the pain of all the unfulfilled relationships rolled over me like waves crashing on the ocean beach.
Principle
In order for us to Become Again, we need to mourn the losses in our lives. The times that people didn’t show up for us, the broken promises, the empty words that people, who may or may not have meant it said. The impact that our hearts dealt with.
